Program
Kardia Learning Center meets each week for a full day of History, Rhetoric,
Christian World View, Logic, Science, Art, Music, Drama, Latin, Writing,
Physical Education, and Scripture Memory. Group activities, organized games and
lunch are part of our day and provide additional social time for the younger children.
Appropriate electives are offered at the High School age level.Parent-staffed classes include Infant & Toddler Nursery, Preschool
age,
Pre-K, Kindergarten age through Second Grade, Elementary age (3rd through 5th grades), Middle
School age (6-8th grades), and High School age (9-12th grades). Professional teachers
help to complement the 6th through 12th grade classroom experience.
Participation of parents in our program facilitates quality instruction,
helps maintain an orderly atmosphere, and keeps tuition reasonable. Mothers or
fathers are expected to attend the learning center and to assist with outside functions in
various ways - for example: teaching, helping in Nursery or with Preschool age
children,
administrative duties, fundraising, or organizing field trips and other special
events.
Classical Model
Kardia Learning Center strongly believes in wisely using the three phases of a
student's learning (Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric) to focus and drive the education of our
children. The Grammar Phase focuses on memorization of facts, rules, dates,
stories, etc. We tell the students what they need to learn through hands-on
experiences, narration and lots of reading.
During the Logic (sometimes called the Dialectic) Phase, students begin to
relate the facts to one another and ask the question, "Why?" We challenge them
to think logically by allowing them to discover knowledge for themselves, focus
on dialogue, understand the value of an argument, and learn how to validate a
point of view.
In the final stage of learning, the Rhetoric Phase,
students gain the ability to express themselves orally and in writing. The High
School years help students to build on the foundation of knowledge and the
logical arguments they gained in the two previous phases. In all phases of
education, Kardia focuses on "great books" and plenty of reading.
Kardia places a strong emphasis on communication skills at all levels, including
speaking and writing. |
